History:
We all humans are a part of one family as stated in Gurbani:
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਝਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਬਾਪੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
You are the Universal Father of all, O my Lord and Master.
We all humans are the sons and daughters of the same creator. We all are brothers and sisters.
It’s our responsibility to look after our family members who are in need of any kind of help. But today the urge of each individual human to pamper his own wants has placed emphasis on selfishness. Resultant of this, there are old people, newborn babies, mentally disable individuals who are suffering a lot and no one wants to look after them. The disabled persons are admitted to any of the hospitals and are left to die on the roadside. There are disabled persons no one wants to touch. As Govt. Has a responsibility under the Mental Health Act to provide facilities and medical treatment to the people affected by the mental illness. Though law exists, there are no facilities available, and the Govt. Do not invest resources or do its duties to look after the people.
Understanding this need, the founders of Prabh Aasra, S. Shamsher Singh Ji along with his wife Bibi Rajinder Kaur Ji decided to establish a facility to help these underprivileged sections of society. As Shamsher Singh Ji, fondly called Veerji could not bear to see unclaimed people stranded on the roadside in unhealthy conditions. So, he tried to contact various Govt./ NGOs/ Gurudwaras and asked for other basic facilities for these people. After lots of meetings, he did not find any support from these organizations. So, in 2003 Veerji and his wife then set up Prabh Aasra in a 2 room rented accommodation.
Medical Camps are organized to provide free medical aid in nearby villages from time to time 24/7 ambulance services and Body Preservers for the betterment of nearby villagers and highway accident victims. To fight female foeticide, a cradle was installed at Prabh Aasra where unwanted infants are left anonymously.
Today, this has been continuously growing and Prabh Aasra has two operational centers- Padiala and Raikot, the third one is under construction spread across 10 acres of land.
